Ryne Sandberg Resigns As Phillies Manager: 119-159 Record

Ryne Sandberg resigned as the manger of the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday, according to MLB.com.

The Phillies have been through a rebuilding season, which didn’t bode well for Sandberg as the manager.  Since he was hired in 2013, Philly went 119-159 and 26-48 this season.

"I do not like to lose," Sandberg told Philly.com. "I hate to lose. I think that's the biggest thing that weighed on me. And with some changes at the top looming, I go back to my statement, I did not want to be in the way of anything happening and progress going forward."

The Phillies are reported to be finalizing an agreement with longtime baseball executive Andy MacPhail to join the organization in a leadership role that would eventual replace club president Pat Gillick, according to Philly.com

Bench coach Pete Mackanin will take over as the Phillies' interim manager.

The Phillies finished last in the National League East in 2014 with a record of 73-89. They are also in last place this season at 26-48, trailing the Nationals by 14.5 games.
