The 22-year-old Minnesota Twins prospect was called up after batting .274/.374/.544 with 15 HR and 48 RBI over 66 games this season with Double-A Chattanooga
Since Kennys Vargas has been demoted, Sano will likely see most of his playing time as the DH for the Twins.
Minnesota is 41-37 and 4.5 games out of first place in the AL Central, which is held by the Royals. It's a good time to showcase Sano in the MLB and against the team the Twins are chasing down for the division.
His improvement likely needs to be on defense. The Twins haven’t been able to find a position for him in the minors. Sano has played most of his games at third base, but has also tried some shortstop and one game at first. He had a .901 percentage in 63 games for Double-A Chattanooga this season and a .932 combined for two teams in 2013, according to FOX Sports.
"He needs work on that, there's no question," Twins general manager Terry Ryan told FOX Sports back in March. "But he does have arm. He does have agility. His hands are fine. Now it's just a matter of putting it all together. Those errors that he makes are unforced. We've got to firm him up."
