Jonathan Papelbon wants to be traded out of Philadelphia, according to CSNPhilly.com
The Phillies closer is in his last season of a four-year $50 million deal. Papelbon, 34, only has 14 saves on this season in part thanks to the Phillies only having 29 wins over 91 games.
The right-hander has a stellar 1.60 ERA during an All-Star 2015 season. He’s likely going to be a hot commodity at the trade deadline but the outspoken pitcher wasn’t shy to voice his opinion on the matter.
"[Blank] or get off the pot," Papelbon told reporters at the All-Star Media Day, according to CSNPhilly.com.
Papelbon has been selected for his fifth All-Star team and his second with the Phillies. He’s owed $13 million this season with a $13 million vesting option he holds for 2016, which could potentially hinder a trade. The Phillies might be forced to eat some of the money in order to make a trade possible.
