Giants Sign Everth Cabrera To Minor League Contract

The San Francisco Giants signed Everth Cabrera to a minor league contract, according to CBS Sports.

The utility infielder was released by the Baltimore Orioles on June 13. After 96 at-bats with a .208/.250/.229 batting line, the Orioles released Cabrera. The Giants decided to sign Cabrera, which could provide depth off the bench down the final stretch of the season.

Cabrera has been known as a speedster throughout his seven-year MLB career, mostly with the San Diego Padres, as he accumulated 138 stolen bases. He only had two swipes in 2015.

His best season came in 2013 as the shortstop for the Padres. Cabrera had a.283 BA, .736 OPS and 37 SB during what was his lone All-Star appearance.

Joaquin Arias has been the utility infielder for the Giants this season. Arias has a .214 BA with 1 HR, 4 RBI and 1 SB in 55 at-bats. Cabrera could potentially provide more stability off the bench as he returns to the West Coast.
