Blue Jays Sign Joba Chamberlain To Minor League Contract

The Toronto Jays have signed Joba Chamberlain to a minor league contract, according to The New York Post.

Chamberlain, 29, was released by the Detroit Tigers earlier in the month in part to a 4.09 ERA and 1.68 WHIP in 30 appearances.

The Blue Jays could use help in the bullpen. As good as their offense is, their pitching is just as bad. Toronto allows 4.10 run per game, which is near the bottom of the entire MLB. The Blue Jays only have 14 saves on the season, which is dead last in the MLB by three saves. They are .500 on the season but they can’t close out close games.

Chamberlain could help by being in a new home. During his nine-year career, the right-hander spent it all with the New York Yankees and Tigers. He has a career 3.82 ERA but hasn’t had a good year since his 2.83 ERA in 2011.
