Jose Fernandez showed the world again his ability to be one of the top young arms in MLB when he struck out 11 en route to his third straight victory.
In four starts in his return from Tommy John surgery, Fernandez has picked up where he left off. The 22-year-old right-hander allowed three runs on five hits and two walks in seven innings pitched.
One Friday against the Philadelphia Phillies, Fernandez was pulled after 70 pitches and six innings pitched. On Wednesday, he made 96 pitches during his 11-strikeout performance. He even added an RBI double to his night.
Fernandez now owns a 3-0 record with a 2.77 ERA and 32/3 K/BB ratio (26 innings). He’s had a quality start in all four of his starts this season.
The Marlins are practically out of the race for October but the future is bright with their young age back and healthy. His next opponent will be the NL East leading Washington Nationals next week.
