Mets Jenrry Mejia Suspended 162 Games For 2nd Failed PED Test

New York Mets reliever Jenrry Mejia has been suspended 162 games for his second positive PED test, according to MLB.com.

Mejia, 25, will be suspended for the second time this season. He returned from an 80-game suspension for his first failed PED test just three weeks ago. The right-hander won’t be back on a major league field until next July.

The former Mets closer returned from the suspension to pitch 7 1/3 scoreless innings in a set-up role. He will be replaced by Tyler Clippard, who the Mets traded for on Monday from the Oakland A’s.

“We were extremely disappointed when informed of Jenrry’s second suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program,” the Mets said in a statement obtained by The New York Post. “We fully support MLB’s policy toward eliminating performance enhancing substances from the sport.”

Mejia tested positive for Stanozolol and Boldenone. Even if the Mets were to make the playoffs, he wouldn’t be eligible to pitch because of the first suspension. There’s a chance he won’t even be with New York next season.
