Jason Kipnis has been placed on the 15-Day DL and will likely be sidelined for 2-3 weeks with a shoulder injury, according to The Cleveland Plain Dealer.
The Cleveland Indians second baseman has been trying to fight through the injury for the last few days. Apparently, the pain was too much, leading the club to play it safe and send him to the DL.
According to The Cleveland Plain Dealer, Kipnis doesn't have any structural damage. Either way, the Indians will be without one of their best players until possibly September. The 28-year-old made his second All-Star team this season with a .326 BA, 6 HR, 39 RBI and 11 SB. It’s going to be a hard bat for the 48-56 Indians to replace. It has been the best season in the five-year career of Kipnis, which had MVP potential. His 4.62 offensive WAR was good for fifth in the league.
Mike Aviles is likely to receive the bulk of the playing time at second base while Kipnis is out.
