David Wright (Back) Expected To Begin Rehab Assignment Monday

David Wright is expected to begin a rehab assignment on Monday, according to New York Mets manager Terry Collins, reports ESPN New York.

Wright has been out since mid-April. The Mets captain and third baseman will finally progress toward returning this season after being diagnosed with spinal stenosis. The 32-year-old is likely still a few weeks away at the very least.

The good news is that Wright hasn’t suffered any setback during his recent workouts. In his eight games played this season, he had a .333 BA with 1 HR, 4 RBI and 2 SB. He was off to a great start after struggling through the 2014 season.

The Mets have recently overtaken the Washington Nationals for first place in the NL East. They are currently riding a six-game winning streak as they begin a three-game series in Tampa Bay against the Rays. If Wright comes back this season, he will only add depth to a revitalized Mets team.
