Carlos Gonzalez grand slammed the Colorado Rockies into a 5-4 victory over the Washington Nationals on Friday.
Down 4-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Gonzalez came up with the bases loaded. The 29-year-old outfielder delivered a grand slam off of Drew Storen to take the lead. Tommy Kahnle came in and struck out Bryce Harper to get his first career save.
The Rockies didn’t trade Gonzalez during at the trade deadline and for good reason. After his 2-for-4 performance on Friday, he bumped his batting line to .282/.340/.533 with 23 homers and 60 RBI on the season.
He’s been on quite the streak lately with seven homers over his last 12 games and a homer in back-to-back nights. On Saturday, Gonzalez will have the task of facing Stephen Strasburg, who will be returning from an oblique injury that has caused him to miss the last month-plus of the season.
