Orioles Demote Travis Snider, Call Up Junior Lake

The Baltimore Orioles designated Travis Snider for assignment and called up outfielder Junior Lake, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Snider simply wasn’t producing in first season with the Orioles. The 27-year-old outfielder had a .237/.318/.341 batting line with three homers over 69 games this season. With a $2.1 million salary, he’ll likely pass through waivers.

The reason he earned the contract was a second half breakout with the Pittsburgh Pirates last season. Snider had a .264/.338/.438 line with 13 home runs in 2014.

Lake will step in for Snider. The 25-year-old started the 2015 season with the Chicago Cubs. In 21 games, he had a .224 BA, but he will have an opportunity to show what he has in Baltimore.

"I'm ready to go. I'm excited to come here," Lake who was immediately inserted in the Orioles lineup as the designated hitter and eighth batter, told The Baltimore Sun. "I'm ready to play hard. That's all I can control, to play hard. I don't control where I play or [when] I hit. But I play hard every day."
