Stephen Strasburg returned from the DL in grand fashion when he struck out 12 batters en route to a 6-1 victory for the Washington Nationals on Saturday.
An oblique injury has kept Strasburg out off the mound for over a month. The right-hander showcased the Strasburg of old against the Colorado Rockies when he went seven innings with three hits and one run allowed.
Strasburg allowed a double to Charlie Blackmon to open the game but the dominance immediately followed. Only two more hits and one run came for the entire outing as he led the Nationals to a victory that allowed the team to move 1 1/2 games out of first place in the NL East.
The former first overall pick now as a 4.76 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 75/18 K/BB across 68 innings for what has been a disappointed season. Saturday’s start was one of his best this season and is a good sign for the Nationals as the final stretch of the season begins.
