Prince Fielder led the burst of runs in extra innings for the Texas Rangers to defeat the Seattle Mariners on Saturday by the final of 11-3.
Fielder went 2-for-6 with three RBI but it was his two-run homer that put the final nail in the coffin in the 11th inning of what was a 3-3 game before the inning started.
The Texas first baseman now has a .324/.390/.501 batting line with 17 HR and 66 RBI in 107 games this season. He’s been one of the better players in the American League and he’s helped the Rangers become one of the hottest teams in MLB.
The Rangers have won five of their last six games and eight of their last 10 all while now 4 1/2 games out of first place in the AL West and only three games back of the second Wild Card spot. The Baltimore Orioles and Anaheim Angels are the only teams ahead of them at the moment while the Toronto Blue Jays only have a half-game lead for the first Wild Card spot.
It’s going to be a tight race for October down the final stretch and Fielder’s MVP-like season could help the Rangers sneak in.
