Starling Marte left Wednesday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals with discomfort in his hand.
Marte has been dealing with the same issue for a few weeks now, and apparently it was enough for the Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder to leave the game. The Pirates will further evaluate the 26-year-old star before a possible DL stint.

The Pirates when on to lose the game 4-2 on Wednesday, which marked two straight losses to the Cards. The 65-46 Pirates hold a 1 1/2 game lead for the first National League Wild Card spot but now trail St. Louis by seven game in what was a three-game series that could have been Pittsburgh’s chance to climb back into the race for the NL Central crown.
It’s going to be a tough go for the Pirates if they are without one of their best hitters. Marte can do it all. He has a .287 BA with 13 HR, 57 RBI and 22 SB.
Sean Rodriguez replaced him in left field Wednesday and will likely be the first man up in Marte’s absence.
