Alex Gordon will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Sunday, according to The Kansas City Star.
The star outfielder has been sidelined since July 8 after he hurt his groin while tracking a fly ball. Despite an injury to a key player, the Kansas City Royals have been able to maintain the best record in the American League. Gordon’s return will only help a team that already sits at the top.

The goal is for Gordon to return from the Grade 2 groin strain by the end of the month. The 31-year-old had a .279/.394/.457 batting line with 11 HR and 39 RBI over 78 games prior to the injury. He matches his offense with stellar defense. He is a four-time Golden Glove winner in as many years.
Gordon struggled at the plate last postseason with a .204 BA but did drive in 11 RBI with 1 HR and 4 SB. If he can pick up where he left off before the injury, he could be due for a more successful postseason at the plate.
