First Base / Third Base Waiver Wire for Week 23

Aramis Ramirez (3B, PIT) - 40 percent owned

Ramirez's best days are clearly well behind him, but the former fantasy stud has posted a healthy .293/.343/.489 line and knocked in 23 runs over the last month. He's hit three homers in the past week as well. Overall, the 37-year-old is on pace for his worst full season since 2002 - which, coincidentally enough, came with these same Pirates. A lot has changed in those 13 years, but A-Ram might just have enough left in the tank to give your fantasy squad a boost as we enter the home stretch.

Martin Prado (2B/3B/OF, MIA) - 34 percent

A decent portion of Prado's fantasy value during his career has come from his versatility. Though his production isn't quite where it's usually been, he does retain that multi-position eligibility. Prado has also done a reasonable impression of a three category contributor over the last four weeks, batting .288 with 15 runs and 18 RBI. The Marlins are playing out the string, but the veteran provides flexibility at a time of year where that becomes extremely important in many formats.

Marcus Semien (2B/3B/SS, OAK) - 28 percent

While Semien hasn't quite lived up to the promise he showed during a hot start, he's still managed to reach double digits in homers and steals. Semien has also produced an excellent .314/.344/.465 line in the last 30 days of action. He's eligible at both middle infield positions as well as the hot corner, and fortunately most fake baseball leagues don't count defense. If only the Athletics were so lucky.

Eduardo Escobar (2B/3B/SS/OF, MIN) - 24 percent

Did you know that Escobar finished in the top 10 in the American League in doubles last year? More importantly for our purposes, did you realize he's posted a 1.042 OPS and scored 22 runs over the last month? The Twins' Swiss Army knife (he's eligible at every position besides catcher and first base) is swinging a red hot bat and his ownership level has skyrocketed this week as a result. Those owners looking for a short-term boost would do well to follow the crowd on this one.

Nick Castellanos (3B, DET) - 20 percent

In our midseason tiered rankings, I placed Castellanos in the bottom tier with a bunch of lousy players. He's done his best since the All-Star break to make me look like an idiot, checking in with an OPS of .846 and nine homers. Sure, 40-odd games is a relatively small sample, but Castellanos was a well-regarded prospect in the Tigers system and is only in his age-23 season. In hindsight, it might have been a bit premature to write him off.
