Freese Delivers Clutch Double For Big Angels Win

David Freese came through in the clutch for the Angels Wednesday when he broke the tie with a two-run double in the top of the eighth inning, which led to the 6-5 victory over the Houston Astros.

The former World Series MVP hasn’t had his best MLB season, but his hit helped pull the Angels to within 1 1/2 games behind the Astros for the second AL Wild Card. LAA is four behind the Texas Rangers for the AL West crown.

It was the only hit of the day for Freese. The 32-year-old struck out twice prior to his double that he thought was going to be cut. The third baseman appeared frustrated since he thought it was going to be caught but then the ball found its way off the short left field wall in Houston. Mike Trout scored and Collin Cowgill was right behind him for an insurance run. The Astros scored in the ninth but failed to get the score even.

In 110 games this season, Freese has a .254/.317/.406 batting line with 11 HR and 48 RBI over 389 at-bats.
