Wainwright (Foot) Throws 25 Pitches To Live Batters

Adam Wainwright threw 25 pitches to live hitters Wednesday at Busch Stadium.

It’s been a long recovery for the former three-time All-Star and World Series champion since he suffered an Achilles tendon rupture back in April. It was originally believed that he would miss the entire season, but now Wainwright is expected to be back in St. Louis Cardinals rotation in the near future.

Wainwright threw live batting against Matt Adams, Randal Grichuk, and a few others. Adams actually homered while Grichuk hit a line-drive to center. Either way, it was a positive that Wainwright is even a possibility to be on the mound at all this season.

If and when he does comeback, the NL Central-leading Cardinals are going to use him out of the bullpen. The right-hander won’t be starting, but he will come out of the bullpen like he did when he was a rookie and St. Louis won the World Series. He was injured the second time the Cards won the World Series with him on the roster.
