Jonathan Papelbon has been suspended three games for hitting Manny Machado intentionally with a pitch on Wednesday.
The Washington Nationals closer buzzed Machado up and in earlier in the at-bat before he nailed him with a fastball in what was likely a retaliation for a homer he hit earlier. Machado admired a shot he hit off Max Scherzer earlier in the game, which led to Papelbon's payback.

The 34-year-old has appealed the suspension.
"When you throw at somebody's head on purpose, first pitch, straight out the get-go, then you throw a curveball, then you throw again at the head, that's just ... " Machado told reporters after the game."You know it's coward stuff. It's just coward."
Papelbon responded to Machado’s claims.
"If Manny thinks I hit him, then that's what he thinks. I'm not going to sit here and go back and forth whether I did or whether I didn't, because it doesn't matter. If he thinks I did, that's what he thinks."
In case you need a closer for your fantasy playoffs, there’s a chance you’re going to lose Papelbon and his 24 saves for a few games during the final week of the fantasy season.
