A.J. Pierzynski hit two solo homers for the only two Atlanta Braves runs as they knocked off the Washington Nationals 2-1 on Tuesday.
The veteran catcher was the only Braves hitter that was able to hit Tanner Roark. Pierzynski went 3-for-3 as he had three of the five Atlanta hits on the day. If he’s a free agent in fantasy leagues, owners should pick him up immediately for the final remaining five games.
The 38-year-old has his best batting average since 2009. This year, Pierzynski has a .294 BA, which is the sixth highest throughout his 18-year career. He also has 7 HR with 47 RBI and 38 runs in 111 games.
He might not play every day but with team’s shutting down some catchers and giving youngsters a chance to play, fantasy owners might be able to sneak Pierzynski into their lineups for the rest of the season.
Atlanta has two more games with the Nationals before closing the season with a St. Louis Cardinals team that will likely be resting a lot of their starters, including pitchers.
