Carlos Gomez (Intercostal) Expected To Start Wednesday

Carlos Gomez is expected to rejoin the Houston Astros starting lineup on Wednesday against the Seattle Mariners.

The outfielder has been sidelined since Sept. 12 due to a strained intercostal muscle. He’s only been used as a pinch-runner. Astros manager A.J. Hinch said he expects his returns to the lineup to be Wednesday. If the 29-year-old returns, it will be a huge boost to a team that has lost the AL West lead and now the second Wild Card spot since Gomez last started a game.

The Angels now have a half-game lead for the second Wild Card spot with five games to go. Houston has four games remaining. One game is against Seattle while the final three will be against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Angels play one more against the Oakland A’s before closing the season out with four games against the Texas Rangers.

Gomez owns a .234/.282/.379 batting line with four home runs and 13 RBI since joining the Astros. Houston will need the two-time All-Star rather than the player that has worn an Astros uniform.
