Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez are out of the lineup Wednesday against the Texas Rangers.
This is bad news for fantasy owners competing in their respective finals. Cabrera is simply getting a day off while Martinez continues to deal with a quad injury that forced his exit early on Monday and his absence from the lineup on Tuesday.
Martinez is apparently not healthy enough to play his usual DH spot. The 36-year-old has dealt with a numerous number of injuries that has forced him to only compete in 120 games this year. He will likely finish the season with a .245 BA with 11 HR and 64 RBI after a .335 BA, 32 HR and 103 RBI last season. Martinez is signed through 2018 at $18 million per year. He might not hit again this season.
Cabrera is on line to win the AL batting title with a .334 BA. He also has 17 HR with 74 RBI this season. He is going to be a tough loss even if it’s for one day. Fantasy users will be praying that he returns to the lineup on Thursday.
