Though successfully securing 7-of-9 targets for a total of 105 receiving yards in the New England Patriots’ Week 6 win over the Indianapolis Colts, it’s unlikely Danny Amendola’s performance was little more than a statistical outlier.
Not only did seven of Amendola’s Tom Brady targets come in the first half, but so too did 87 of his total receiving yards. Truthfully, much of Amendola’s success came about because of Colts’ cornerback Vontae Davis making Julian Edelman his top priority.
In fact, in the Patriots’ previous four games, Amendola’s combined receiving yards don’t even break the 100-yard mark, coming in at just 98 total yards. Anything but stellar, to say the least.
So, if you find yourself tempted to make Amendola a receiving sleeper come Week 7 against the New York Jets, proceed with caution. More than likely, Amendola will regress to the mean and will be back to his regular old self.
