Week 8 Quarterback (QB) Rankings Analysis
By Zach Wilkens (@LopsidedTrades)
I have Aaron Rodgers at QB6 this week, which is probably the lowest he’ll be all season. That is two spots below his consensus but if you own Aaron Rodgers I can’t imagine you also have one of my top five QBs this week, even if it’s Carson Palmer or Andy Dalton. The Denver defense is just too good, even for Aaron Rodgers to have an elite day. For what it’s worth, Rodgers finished as QB10 in Week 2 against Seattle so he has already shown he isn’t a guaranteed top 5 finish.
I am liking Russell Wilson more than most this week. Fun fact about the Cowboys vs QBs: In 3 games against their NFC East division rivals the Cowboys are allowing 6.33 fantasy points to the QB. In three games against non-division opponents? 23 points per game. Maybe Russell Wilson lands somewhere in the teens instead of the 20s but I think he will still give you a good game.
I have Matt Ryan at QB12 this week vs his consensus of QB9. I just don’t think Ryan looks quite as sharp as he has in past years. Specifically over the past three games he has just a 61.3% completion rate with more interceptions than touchdowns. Considering these were not hard matchups by any means (Redskins, Saints, Titans), that leaves me pretty concerned. I hope he turns it around this week but I’m bringing him down to QB12 because of what he has showed lately.
Jameis Winston is still getting the rookie treatment from fantasy experts at QB24, but I think it’s time to start respecting him. I have him at QB19. It’s a start! Over his past two games he has a 70% completion rate with three touchdowns and no interceptions. With 297 yards last week, Winston became the first QB to pass for 200+ yards in his first six games. That broke a record that Andrew Luck previously held. Not a bad start to his career!
