Analysis: Owen Daniels exceeded expectations in Denver's first loss last week against the undefeated Carolina Panthers, posting a fantasy score way above his projection. Don't expect lightning to strike twice though--not with the recent acquisition of Vernon Davis.
Despite only playing nine snaps against the Panthers, the Broncos are hoping to get Davis into the action more in weeks to come. "He needs to play more and he will," coach Gary Kubiak said, according to ESPN.com. Davis' impact on Denver's offense remains to be seen, but it's safe to say that Daniel's season-long inconsistency will continue regardless.
Daniels is not a viable option at tight end, even with Peyton Manning throwing him the ball. Before Sunday's performance against Carolina, in which he caught six balls for 102 yards and one touchdown, Daniels had only 129 receiving yards all season, and only managed to hit double-digit fantasy points one other time. Also, according to Yahoo! Sports, the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver's upcoming opponent, have given up the fewest fantasy points to tight ends. Daniels is simply a low-end TE2 at this point.
