Analysis: The New England Patriots always find a way. Dropping two in a row, falling out of first place overall in the AFC, the Patriots rebounded last week against the Houston Texans and now find themselves back in control of obtaining a first-round bye. Their struggles, however, were due mainly in part to injuries, and their recent success, is attributed to the return of Rob Gronkowski. With Julian Edelman returning to practice, what happens now to the role players that attempted to pick up the slack in the absence of New England's big guns--like Keshawn Martin?
This one is simple, actually. There are too many guys ahead of Martin, on the depth chart and production wise. Danny Amendola is New England's number one wide receiver, but with Gronk returning in expedited fashion, Tom Brady is reunited with his best on-field weapon. Even the drop-happy Brandon LaFell would be a smarter look than Martin.
The Patriots face the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, who have surrendered 28 receiving touchdowns this season, according to ESPN.com. The matchup is there, just not for Martin. It is likely the Patriots will be ahead early, moving heavily to a run attack to control the clock, and keep Brady fresh and rested for another New England playoff run.
Martin should not be stashed away, nor considered in any league.
