NHL DFS Picks for Tuesday, December 29th
There is a nice big slate of 10 games tonight in the NHL. There are four teams(LA, NSH, DET, MON) playing on back to back nights and all four are on the road tonight.
A couple strategy notes. For cash game construction look for players who can contribute to your score when they are not providing offense. Examples are guys who take a ton of shots, defensemen who block a lot of shots(DraftKings). Also, look for guys who get powerplay time and especially Top 6 forwards. You can find value in players who join a new line due to an injury or just get a promotion and more ice time.
For large field tournaments(GPP's) you want to find payers who have multi point upside and can grab double digit fantasy points. To stack the most upside in your forwards a common strategy is to punt the defense position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone. Try and look for a D man who will be playing more PP time or might get a boost in overall playing time due to an injury.
With that, let's dig in to find some core plays for Sunday night.
Jake Allen - Goaltender, Blues (DraftKings - $7,600 FanDuel - $10,200)
There are a lot of good options between the pipes tonight with Allen being one of the best. He has picked up wins in four of his last five games and has pushed his record to 17-8-2 with a .927 save % for the Blues. He makes a great choice in any format tonight.
Tyler Seguin - Center, Stars (DraftKings - $8,400 FanDuel - $9,400)
If you are paying up for a center tonight, Seguin makes a great choice. He is 3rd in league scoring with 47 points and pairs with Jamie Benn to form the leagues best line duo. In an earlier matchup vs. the Blue Jackets, he picked up two goals on three shots and had a +3 rating.
John Gaudreau - Winger, Flames (DraftKings - $7,000 FanDuel - $9,500)
It's an automatic to play Johnny Hockey when the Flames are playing at home in Calgary. He has picked up 29 points on home ice this year and added 50 shots and an astounding +18 rating. He came out of the Christmas break like he went in....scoring goals. He now has five goals in his last two games.
Kyle Palmieri - Winger, Devils (DraftKings - $4,700 FanDuel - $5,100)
A very affordable option on the wing that is safe in all formats. He has picked up nine points in his last 10 games and is up to 28 points on the season. The Devils are at home tonight vs. Hurricanes ranked 25th in goals allowed per game.
Alex Pietrangelo - Defense, Blues (DraftKings - $5,100 FanDuel - $6,500)
He is best suited for DraftKings tonight as his salary is much cheaper. He also provides added value with blocked shots which is bonus on Draftkings. The floor is high enough to make him a cash play but I would look elsewhere for GPP as his offense has been ice cold.
