Welcome to the new Fantasy Hockey Sleepers and NHL Waiver Wire report. Each week I will be updating some of the players you should targeting on the waiver wire to help you build a championship fantasy hockey team. The recommendations will focus on, for the most part, standard Yahoo! Fantasy Hockey leagues with the following stat categories:
- Goals
- Assists
- Powerplay Points
- Short Handed Points
- +/- Rating
- Shots on Goal
- Hits
- Faceoffs Won
- Goalie Wins
- Saves
- Save %
- Goals Against Average
- Shutouts
Only players who are under 50% owned in Yahoo Fantasy Hockey will be considered for the waiver wire report. If you have specific questions about how a player fits your league settings please hit me up on Twitter(@Jager_Bombs9)
Let us now take a look at this week's low owned waiver wire options..
Fantasy Hockey Sleepers and Waiver Wire Pickups at Forward
Tomas Hertl (SJ, C/LW) 33% Owned
He has spent each of the last 10 games skating on the first line with Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski. He has really thrived in his new role recording 11 points in those 10 games. With only one of those points coming on the PP it leaves a tremendous amount of upside if he were to see a small boost in production with the man advantage. He won't be under 50% owned for long.
Mika Zibanejad (OTT, C/RW) 22% Owned
He is riding a six game point streak that dates back to the 16th of January. He has been averaging over 18:00 of ice time in that time playing primarily with either Mike Hoffman or Bobby Ryan or both. He has also been a staple on the top PP unit averaging 2:24 a game on the season. The Senators have the 9th ranked offense and present a ton of value for fantasy. Zibanejad makes a terrific pickup in every format.
Ryan Spooner (BOS, C/LW) 41% Owned
The Bruins are another team that present a ton of fantasy value with the leagues #3 overall offense and #2 ranked powerplay. Spooner remains under 50% owned in Yahoo leagues despite the incredible month he has had. Since December 29th(14 games) Spooner has picked up 15 points while bouncing back and forth between the first and second line. He gets exposure to the Bruins core offensive players in Patrice Bergeron, Loui Eriksson, David Krejci, and Brad Marchand. He can definitely help carry your fantasy team to a championship in the second half.
