Daily Fantasy Golf DraftKings Picks (PGA DFS): Honda Classic

By Keith Allison (Tiger Woods) [CC BY-SA 2.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0)], via Wikimedia Commons

Bubba Watson birdied two of the last three holes to win the Northern Trust Open. Jason Kokrak and Adam Scott both finished one stroke back. Last week I picked Sergio Garcia or Charl Schwartzel to win. Garcia missed the cut and Schwartzel finished T45. Matt Kuchar was my best pick, as he finished T8, 10-under. Andy Sullivan finished 4-over, Luke Donald was T45, William McGirt was T20, Lucas Glover missed the cut, as did Roberto Castro.

The PGA Tour now heads to Palm Beach Gardens, FL and will stay in the Sunshine State for the next four tournaments. The PGA National (Champion) course will play host to this weeks tournament. Padraig Harrington is the defending champion.

The course is a par 70, and 7,158 yards. A lot of things can change on the par three, 17th, and par five, 18th. On the 17th, wind will be against the golfer as he try to place the ball on the 30-foot space go green to work with. The 604-yard 18th can be reached in two shots, which many golfers will attempt if trailing in the final round.

PGA Stats To Look At for Daily Fantasy Golf (DFS)

In the last five tournaments at the PGA National, Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green, bogey avoidance, and par 4 scoring average, have been most relevant in deciding a winner. Additionally, Strokes Gained: Putting is important for this tournament.

Fantasy Golf Lineup Picks for DraftKings (PGA DFS)

Branden Grace ($10,300)

Grace has been playing on the European Tour in 2016, and he's been killing it. He finished T4 at the BMW SA Open in early January, T5 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship two weeks later, and won the Qatar Masters to end January. His low-missile type shot will strongly help him on this course.

Luke Donald ($8,600)

This will be my third consecutive week picking Donald. He hasn't been a great pick, but not the worst. He's been number one in SG:P  in the last five Honda Classic's, and has the best SG:T. Donald is T20 in par 4 scoring average and bogey avoidance, and 39th in T2G. Donald finished T7 and T8 the past two years at the PGA National. He didn't play in 2013 or 2012, but finished T10 in 2011, 2nd in 2008 and won in 2006, although that was played at The Country Club at Mirasol-Sunrise.

Graeme McDowell ($8,400)

This will be McDowell's first start on the PGA Tour since he was was cut at the Sony Open in the middle of January. He recently played two weeks ago at the Dubai Desert Classic where he finished T82. He is third in SG:T for the last five tournaments at the PGA National. He's T13th in par 4 scoring average and is third in bogey avoidance. He was cut last year, T46 the year prior, T9, T9, T6, and T31.

Frederik Jacobson ($8,200)

Freddie has back-to-back top five finishes at the Farmers Insurance and Pebble Beach, but was cut last week at the Northern Trust this past week. He is 26th in SG:P, T39 in bogey avoidance, and T81 in par 4 scoring average. Jacobson has had a great run at this tournament, sans last year where he was was cut. He finished T12 the year prior, T25 in 2013, T16 in 2012, T29 in 2011, T6 in 2010, T5 in 2009, and was cut in 2008.

Daniel Berger ($8,100)

He's 68th in SG:P, 82nd in T2G, 68th in bogey avoidance, and T38 in par 4 scoring average, all modest rankings. Last year, in his first time playing in the Honda Classic, he lost in a playoff to Paddy Harrington. He'll be looking to rebound after being cut at the Northern Trust this past week.

Keegan Bradley ($7,900)

The St. John's alum is the best SG:T2G player in the past five Honda Classic's, and is second in SG: Total. His finishes in year's past: cut, T12, T4, and T12. He's been cut at three of the last four tournaments, including the Northern Trust last week, but I expect him to regain his groove on a course he's had good history at.

Jason Bohn ($6,700)

Bohn is 73rd in SG:P, 26th in SG:T2G, 16th in bogey avoidance, and T5 in par 4 scoring average. Bohn has not had a good history as he was cut the past two years, and finished T71 three years ago. In 2012 he finished T62, T35 in 2010, cut in 2009 and T31 in 2007. For some reason, I think he will turn around his play at the PGA National this week.

Ollie Schniederjans ($6,400)

He last played at the Farmer's Insurance Open where he finished T49. He's 51st in SG:P, the only stat relevant to this tournament that he is ranked in the top 100 in. This will be his first time playing in the Honda Classic.

George McNeill ($6,600)

McNeill will likely be less than 1% owned this week. Why? He has yet to make a cut this season. He is 0-5. His last tournament was the Farmers Insurance Open, and has had time to regain his stroke. His stats for this tournament are all awful, but his play hasn't been. Last year he finished T11, T12 the year prior, T41 in 2013, cut in 2012, T12 in 2010, T32 in 2009, cut in 2008, and T62 in 2007. If he can finish Top 15, his price will pay dividends.
