NHL DFS Lineup Picks (3/21/16): FanDuel & DraftKings Daily Fantasy Hockey Advice

Welcome to the Daily Fantasy Hockey (NHL DFS) lineup picks article for Monday, March 21st of the 2015/2016 NHL season. Each day we'll be providing you with a handful of forward, defensemen, and goaltender picks for DraftKings and FanDuel GPP and cash games.

Three out of the four games on Monday are between teams headed to the playoffs or contending for a playoff spot. The fourth, a contest between a team that gives up the most goals in the league and a team that scores the second fewest.

Playoffs inch closer and closer. Let's see how much that translates to bloated Daily Fantasy lines for those on teams prepping for extra hockey. For updated goalie confirmations, check out leftwinglock.com.

NHL DFS Picks for Monday, March 21st

A couple strategy notes. For cash game construction look for players who can contribute to your score when they are not providing offense. Examples are guys who take a ton of shots, defensemen who block a lot of shots(DraftKings). Also, look for guys who get powerplay time and especially Top 6 forwards. You can find value in players who join a new line due to an injury or just get a promotion and more ice time.

For large field tournaments (GPP's) you want to find payers who have multi point upside and can grab double digit fantasy points. To stack the most upside in your forwards a common strategy is to punt the defense position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone. Try and look for a D man who will be playing more PP time or might get a boost in overall playing time due to an injury.

Let's take a look at some solid plays for today's action.

Jonas Hiller - Goaltender, Flames (DraftKings - $6,900 FanDuel - $6,400)

Hiller has lost three straight starts but has the best matchup out of the four games on Monday. Despite the fact that the Calgary Flames don't know how to keep the puck out of their own net, the Toronto Maple Leafs have scored the second fewest goals per game in the league, and often have trouble lighting the lamp. Hiller has already been confirmed to stand in between the pipes as Joni Ortio is starting on Sunday. He hasn't started a game since the beginning of March so he's fresh and should get back to the win column against the Flames.

Anze Kopitar - Center, Kings (DraftKings - $ 6,600 FanDuel - $7,800)

Kopitar has picked up a point in five straight games and nine of his last 10. He has accumulated 13 total points in that span and has become a pretty steady option for Daily Fantasy. The Kings continue to make a push and sit four points ahead of the Anaheim Ducks in first place of the Pacific Division. Kopitar has been at the center of their hot play and now faces a Nashville Predators team trying to get out of a wild card playoff berth and into a division berth. Expect this game to be competitive and filled with a lot of opportunity for fantasy points.

Mikael Backlund - Center, Flames (DraftKings - $4,300 FanDuel - $5,800)

Backlund is a very affordable option at center and could take advantage of his solid matchup against the Maple Leafs. Backlund has strung together a nice bit of consistency over his last 10, picking up eight points, five of which came in his last five. He puts the puck on net often, sees some time on the power play, and is putting together a nice season, closing in on 40 total points. He is a solid tournament option for both DFS sites.

Jaromir Jagr - Winger, Panthers (DraftKings - $5,700 FanDuel - $5,900)

Jagr visits one of his former teams on Monday as the Florida Panthers visit Madison Square Garden. Jagr provided some memorable moments for the New York Rangers and was clearly a fan favorite, but there is always something intriguing about someone visiting a place they used to play, regardless of the terms they left on. Jagr is having himself another really solid season, with 56 points and is a huge reason why the Panthers are contending this season. Always a threat, Jagr makes for a steady and affordable cash and GPP option for DraftKings and FanDuel.

Michael Frolik - Winger, Flames (DraftKings - $4,300 FanDuel - $4,600)

Frolik has had a very interesting, and productive, past couple of games. Despite failing to tally a point in his last, Frolik has accumulated seven points in four games. One game consisted of a hat trick, two goals coming while shorthanded. He has had a very realistic and pedestrian 32 point season thus far, but is another Calgary player that should take advantage of Toronto's weaknesses.

Shea Weber - Defenseman, Predators (DraftKings - $6,300 FanDuel - $5,600)

Weber is the total package for Daily Fantasy defenseman as he can simply do everything; score, assist, block shots, shoot on net, play on the power play, etc. He has picked up nine points in his last ten games and plays well over 25 minutes a night. The Kings and Predators highlight the four games on Monday and Weber is among some of the top talents in the league facing off against each other. Weber is a consistent option every time his skates touch the ice.

Kevin Klein - Defenseman, Rangers (DraftKings - $3,800 FanDuel - $3,200)

Klein is a very cheap option that has been very productive for his price of late. He has picked up four points in four games, including two important goals against the Anaheim Ducks last week. Klein has blocked 22 shots in his last ten games and averages over 2o minutes of ice time a night. The Rangers are clinging onto the second seed in the Metropolitan Division, now tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins with 88 points. Every game counts doubly and every player on the Rangers will need to contribute in order to keep pace.
