Analysis: The Diamondbacks have had their fair share of disappointing starts and breakout performances in 2016, but Jake Lamb stands out as someone who had a particularly exceptional month of April and beyond. Lamb currently has four home runs, two stolen bases, and a slash line of .291/.383/.544. Even though his BABIP is at .333, its long-term sustainability is supported by a line drive percentage of 34%. Lamb is striking out 6% less than he was last season and is walking far more often with a rate of 12.5%.
With an isolated power figure of .253, it should be no surprise that Lamb is producing so many extra base hits in Arizona. Lamb is however hitting far better in road games with a road OPS of 1.096 and has been dominating RHP with an OPS of .955. Most key to Lamb's statistical success is his BA and SLG with Arizona runners in scoring position which are .333 and .667. Lamb is hitting a lot, and hitting for power. He poses very little risk given his lowered K% and significantly raised BB%. When a player like this is available in 83% of leagues, it is very much the time to act.
