Welcome to Week 8 of the baseball season. Last week was a great week for us and we'll look to continue to streak going forward. There's 12 games today including a double header (Indians-White Sox) with first pitch at 5:10 ET (Rockies-Pirates is not available).
In this article, I’ll be providing you with the top starting pitcher streamers for daily fantasy baseball (DFS) and for seasonal leagues for 5/23/16. These streamers will range from high-priced / high-ownership options to low-priced / low-ownership options, and will be sleepers and value picks for your cash games and GPPs on DraftKings and FanDuel, and also for seasonal leagues with daily lineups.
There'll be three main sections of this article: our Pitcher Matchups Tool’s top plays, my value plays, and pitchers to fade. I highly recommend you check out the Daily Pitcher Matchups Ratings tool - it's an extremely useful tool for daily fantasy or seasonal streaming for finding the diamonds in the rough. Anyways, let's get cracking!
Daily Pitcher Matchup Ratings Tool Top Plays
Clayton Kershaw (SP, LAD) vs Reds
It's Kershaw Day, which means he's always a viable option, regardless of price. He has six straight games with 10+ strikeouts and faces a Reds lineup that's below-average versus LHP. Of course, this is no ordinary lefty. Look for Kershaw to make it seven straight tonight.
Rich Hill (SP, OAK) at Mariners
Hill has a 2.54 ERA through nine starts and gets a Mariners team that hates lefties; their .227 AVG and .644 OPS versus LHP are easily the worst in baseball. Hill is a solid tourney play.
Max’s Value Plays of the Day
Ian Kennedy (SP, KC) at Twins
Kennedy continues to impress, posting a 3.24 ERA and a 9.0 K/9. The Twins held scoreless in their first outing this year. The Twins also strike out 22.4% of the time versus righties, third-worst in baseball.
Johnny Cueto (SP, SFG) vs Padres
Not exactly a "value" play, but you're seeing the trend that it's worth paying for pitching today. Cueto has a 2.59 ERA at home and faces a Padres lineup that has a .658 OPS versus RHP, second-worst in baseball. Look for Cueto to move to 7-1 tonight.
Starting Pitchers to Fade in Daily Fantasy Baseball
Wei-Yin Chen (SP, MIA) vs Rays
Chen has faced the Rays more than any team in his career and put up modest numbers (3.85). Good, but not solid for DFS purposes. The Rays are one of the best teams in baseball versus lefties, hitting an MLB-best .272 versus them. I expect a shootout in Miami.
Vince Velasquez (SP, PHI) at Tigers
Love the strikeout potential for Velasquez but this is a tough spot on the road. The Tigers are one of the best offenses versus RHP and don't strike out often versus them. Their .754 OPS is second best in baseball. Go with one of the options in easier matchups.
