Analysis: Not much has gone right for the Angels this year as they sit at 31-39, 7.5 games back from the Wild Card and 14.5 games behind the Rangers in the AL West, but at least Matt Shoemaker is making a recovery in the rotation that has seen Tyler Skaggs, Andrew Heaney, Garrett Richards, Jered Weaver, and Hector Santiago obliterated by devastating injury, old age, and painful struggles. After Shoemaker's near ROY stint in 2014, he had a mediocre season last year with a 4.46 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 4.59 FIP, a massive 1.6 HR/9, and a reduced K/9 of 7.7. Shoemaker had a terrible 2016 April with a 9.15 ERA and 1.89 WHIP in five starts, since then he has made a huge recovery. In May, he made four starts with a 3.28 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP, and this month he has made another four starts to the tune of a 2.20 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. In the past two months, he also has 61 strikeouts and just five walks in 53.1 IP for K/9 and BB/9 figures of 10.3 and an amazing 0.84. After allowing six homers in 20.2 April innings, he has allowed just four long balls in the last two months. Shoemaker has been amazing since the start of May and has been able to lay low to exposure due to his presence on the poor Angels pitching staff. Don't ignore him for another week, not while he is striking out more than ten batters per nine innings and barely walking a single opponent.
