Analysis: After an impressive first three starts that combined for 15 IP, four earned runs and 12 strikeouts; Blake Snell had a rough fourth outing at 5.1 IP, four earned runs, eight hits, four walks, and four strikeouts. Snell now has total season averages of a 3.54 ERA, 1.77 WHIP, 3.20 FIP, 4.9 BB/9, 7.1 K/9, and still hasn't allowed a HR at 0.0 HR/9. Despite some shaky statistics, that is pretty solid for a 23-year old pitcher in his first 20.1 MLB innings. Snell pitched two seasons and 21 starts at the Triple-A level in 2015 and 2016. In that time he had a 2.68 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 0.5 HR/9, 3.4 BB/9, and most impressively 12.3 K/9.
Snell is producing 42.4% ground balls and 26.1% Hard Hit Ball rate. 21.7% of batted balls are hit softly while 52.2% are hit at a medium level. There is nothing too concerning about Snell's more recent forgettable outings so it would be best to trust in the enormous talent level and give him the chance as long as the Rays do the same.
