ANALYSIS: Slugger Pedro Alvarez is no stranger to inconsistency at the plate, but this season he has improved his offensive discipline. His strikeout percentage has been lowered from 26.7% last year to 26.4% this season, but his biggest improvement has been in walk frequency, which he has improved from 9.8% in 2015 to 10.7% this season. In 157 AB in Baltimore this season Alvarez has hit nine HR with a .236/.315/.459 slash line which is good for an isolated power figure of .223. Alvarez has been lighting up RHP this season with a .837 OPS, while he has struggled heavily against LHP with a .332 OPS. After a slow first two months with OPS numbers of .701 and .591 with just three HR in 103 AB; Alvarez has recovered for an en fuego month of June with six homers and a 1.023 OPS in 54 AB. With a 37.5% Hard Hit Ball Rate, Alvarez should continue to rake in Camden Yards.
