ANALYSIS: Derek Norris's slash line of .210/.265/.388 certainly won't blow anyone away, but the San Diego backstop has plenty of encouraging statistics from this season. First off he has hit ten HR and stolen three bases in 224 AB for an isolated power figure of .179 and a solid power/speed number of 4.6. His HR% has improved from 2.5% in 2015 to 4.1% in 2016, which is impressive given his home field is Petco Park. The great thing about Norris's sub-par OPS is that he has improved massively since the start of the year. In April he had a terrible OPS of just .444 and one HR in 77 AB. Then in May he improved to an OPS of .696 with four HR in 74 AB. In June, Norris has been on fire. In 73 AB he has hit five HR, grabbed all three of his stolen bases, and has earned a slash line of .274/.321/.507. Now that he is hitting, hitting for power, and using his athleticism to run the base paths, Norris has worked his way into the top tier of a very shallow position.
