Analysis: The injury-plagued Royals are fighting to earn another postseason birth in an effort to repeat as World Series Champions, and Danny Duffy has been quite the life raft. Duffy bounced back and forth between the bullpen and the rotation, but so far he has made ten starts, pitched 75.1 innings, and has a 3.11 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 10.4 K/9 and a very low 1.9 BB/9. His only weakness has been the long ball. Opponents have hit 11 homers off of Duffy and he has a HR/9 figure of 1.3. For whatever reason, he has fared much better on the road with a 2.04 ERA, 0.983 WHIP, and 11.3 K/9 in 39.2 IP as opposed to his home ERA of 4.29, WHIP of 1.12, and K/9 of 9.3 in 35.2 IP.
In Duffy's last five starts, he has been especially on point; with 32.1 total innings pitched, a 2.78 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 10.6 K/9, and 2.5 BB/9 while his opponents managed a poor slash line of .207/.276/.388. You shouldn't have to worry about Duffy being switched back to relief pitching. The Royals have had problems with the back end of their rotation and after making ten relief appearances and zero starts in April, Duffy then made three starts and six relief appearances in May, and since then has made seven straight starts.
