ANALYSIS: Despite the Cincinnati Reds and their insufferable guessing games on whether a prospect's future is in the rotation or bullpen, Brandon Finnegan hasn't seemed too distracted lately. He has consistently been a better play at home. In 13 starts he has averaged 5.8 IP per outing, a 4.08 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and although he has allowed 1.8 HR/9, he has produced 7.4 K/9 (as opposed to just 5.9 on the road), and just 2.5 BB/9. In the first two months he averaged 5.7 IP per start, a 4.14 ERA, and a 1.38 WHIP. He then had two horrendous months of June and July where produced 5.4 IP per outing, a 5.30 ERA, and a 1.47 WHIP. Thankfully, the young and talented lefty has really turned it around in the last 28 days. In that time span he has made five starts and produced 6.1 IP per start, a 2.08 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, with 7.4 K/9 and has in fact produced 8.0 K/9 in his last two starts. Finnegan has some expected struggles as a very young starter in Great American Ballpark, but he has been on a hot tear lately and has finally produced some whiffs, so keep an eye on him as the season dwindles down.
