Champions Predictions for the 2016/17 Premier League

As the Premier League 2016/17 season moves into its second half, the teams that can realistically challenge for title glory are easier to identify and fans often like to make this part of the season even more exciting by putting bets on a team for the title – rather than just watching. Therefore, this piece will look at some of the teams that could be worth a gamble.

It would seem that the smart money is on Chelsea to claim back the title they lost to Leicester last season, and the bookies certainly think so. They have the blues as 4/6 odds-on favourites, despite the recent defeat to title rivals Tottenham. They have looked formidable; banishing memories of last season’s struggles that saw them end up in mid-table, and the news that goal scorer Diego Costa’s hoped-for move to China appears dead in the water will be a further boost to their chances.

One of the teams that is trying to keep pace with Chelsea is Tottenham, who currently sit second in the table and seven points behind. Last season Spurs finished third which met their goals for the season but still left them feeling slightly disappointed, as the league title seemed possible until a late dip in form. They started slowly this year, with strikers Harry Kane and Dele Alli struggling for goals, but moved up a gear around November and hit top form over the festive period – culminating in a superb win over Chelsea in early January.

The bookmakers have them on 15/2 to win their first league title since 1961, and they are definitely finding form at the right time.

Just behind them in the table, but level on points, are Liverpool. This is Jurgen Klopp’s second season in charge and Liverpool have been transformed into a relentless pressing team under his tutelage – moving from a seventh place finish in 2015/16 to genuine title challengers this time. They have secured a number of impressive results already this season, including a memorable demolition of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge early in the season, but have slipped a little recently, with dropped points in January – including a late equaliser for Manchester United that was particularly galling.

They are rated 13/2 second favourites for the title though and have the potential match winners, such as Lallana and Mane, in their squad to maintain their challenge.

Arsenal appeared poised to make a serious assault on the title this season, but old frailties – notably an inability to cope with aggressive, pressing football – flared up again during December. A 1-2 reverse at Everton was followed by them going 0-3 down to Bournemouth and having to desperately peg them back for a draw. Arsenal finished second last year, but led the table for much of the first half of the season, making it a disappointing result – and they have dropped to fourth this time, with odds of 12/1.

Any of these sides could win the league still, but if you can’t decide there is always football slot Soccer Safari available to play on mobile casino Canada instead. Winning the jackpot on Soccer Safari and picking the Premier League winner would be a stunning double coup.
