ANALYSIS: Joe Panik was a popular pick in fantasy drafts a year ago thanks to two solid first years in the big leagues. He appeared in a total of 173 games between 2014 and 2015 and recorded a .309 average. However, those who took Panik last year were greatly disappointed, as he was slowed by a concussion and never seemed to turn things around. The second baseman played in 127 games and managed just a .239 average.
Fortunately, those who reached for Panik this season have so far been rewarded. He's currently hitting over .300 and has shown the skill that made him a plus-.300 hitter during his first two years. The downside on Panik right now is the fact that he's stuck at the bottom of a very good San Francisco lineup, which limits his run-scoring ability. If he's able to jump up near the top of the order then his value will continue to rise. Don't expect much power, but if you need a boost in average or help at second base, don't hesitate to add him now.
