ANALYSIS: Adam Frazier won't hold down center field for the Pirates all season, but maybe he should. In two days filling in for a struggling Andrew McCutchen, Frazier hit three-run homers on consecutive days. He is now hitting a surprising .361 with a .961 OPS on the season. He's not a power hitter by any stretch, as the sudden power surge gives him a total of three homers and 16 RBI in 97 at-bats. He never hit more than two home runs in his professional career in fact, so he's already at a career-high. Frazier does have a slash line of .300/.364/.371 across five minor league seasons, so the on-base skills are real. He has a dead even 1.00 K/BB rate, which highlights his excellent plate discipline. Frazier has also been clutch, hitting an astounding .448 with two outs in an inning.
Frazier is a natural second baseman, but has seen quite a bit of time in the outfield this year due to injuries and the suspension of outfielder Starling Marte. Regardless of where he plays in the field, Frazier should stay in the lineup on a near-daily basis while hitting leadoff for the Pirates, which could lead to sneaky run-scoring productivity as long as he keeps reaching base. He is worth streaming immediately in deeper mixed leagues and could make for a useful utility player in fantasy, just as he's been in reality.
