ANALYSIS: Andrelton Simmons has swung a hot bat this season, and fantasy owners will be wise to capitalize on the career year by the shortstop. Simmons is slashing .338/.357/.550 with two home runs, nine RBI and a steal over his last 80 at-bats. That brings his season line up to a tidy .287/.338/.434 with nine home runs, 13 steals and 40 RBI. Simmons has hit primarily fifth in the order, part of the reason he is on pace to shatter his career high of 59 RBI, set back in 2013. His 13 steals are already a career-high, and his nine home runs is second only to the 17 he put up in 2013.
Simmons, assuming he stays healthy, will likely shatter all of his previous offensive career highs, as his .287 batting average is also the highest of his career, and is being held up by a perfectly reasonable .303 BABIP. His strikeout percentage is up a bit at 11%, but otherwise his batted ball profile has not changed that much, meaning a second half similar to his first half seems likely for the 27-year-old defensive wizard. Simmons could realistically finish around .280 with 20 home runs, 80 RBI and 25 steals. That type of production would make him a top fantasy shortstop, and certainly merits a roster spot in most fantasy formats.
