NBA Waiver Wire: Standard League Adds for Week 4

It's week 4 -- the fantasy landscape is an ever-shifting field of potential studs and potential flops. There's no need to navigate this minefield alone, so let us help you out this week.

This year, we're tossing out our old convention of separating waiver wire posts into positions, and instead, we're separating them into depth of league -- standard, shallow, deep, etc. The NBA is trending to positionless basketball, so we at RotoBaller should too.

For standard (10-12 team) league adds, we use a general rule of thumb of an ownership rate of under 50% on Yahoo. All position eligibility based on Yahoo leagues.

Standard League Adds for Week 4

Kelly Oubre Jr., SF - Washington Wizards

Ownership: 47%

12.0 PPG / 5.6 AST / 2.3 3PM / 463 FG%

For the second time in three weeks Oubre is making our list, and if you didn’t listen the first time around, now's you're last chance to pluck him off your waiver wire. Coach Scott Brooks has kept him in the starting lineup, even with the return of Markieff Morris, and is adamant that he has a big role to play in the offense. His defense is still finding its way, but he has been effective playing with a first unit that has been one of the best in the league. Washington is currently second in the league in efficiency rating, trailing only Golden State.

What started as a cup of coffee in the starting lineup has turned into a solid return for fantasy owners, as Oubre is sitting in the top-60 players so far this season, while averaging 32:26 minutes per game. He doesn’t turn the ball over often, and his contribution in all stat categories gives him a steady floor night in and night out. At only 21, he has room to grow, but it looks like that growth is happening before our eyes this season.

Dewayne Dedmon, C - Atlanta Hawks

Ownership: 36%

9.5 PPG / 7.7 REB / 0.9 BLK / .530 FG%

Coming off his best week of the season, Dewayne Dedmon put up a season-high total in points (19), rebounds (12), and minutes (36) on Monday night. Dedmon has been trending in the right direction all season long, and it is time for you to notice as it seems like he has held over the starting center role for the Atlanta Hawks.

While he does have some down nights, he has been consistent enough to warrant rostering as his .530 field goal percentage and .857 free throw percentage provides good stability. Oh, and he also fills up the stat sheet, blocking .9 shots, dishing 1 assist and hitting .5 threes per game. He isn’t the flashiest player, but he provides some depth at center and is worth taking a gamble on because he has been putting up some good numbers lately. It never hurts to have a big man who can routinely throw up double-doubles.

Mike James PG – Phoenix Suns

Ownership 40%

11.7 PPG / 4.1 AST / 2.8 REB / .374 FG%

The job is officially his. With Eric Bledsoe finally being dealt away, Mike James should entrench himself as the Suns’ starting point guard, and provide solid value as the season goes on. Yes, his field goal percentage is ugly, but that should improve with confidence. He has done enough on a nightly basis to provide value in deep leagues, and if the Suns begin to gain some rhythm as a team, he will only improve.

Mike “Two First Names” James is currently on a two-way contract with the Suns, and they have until December sixth to decide to sign him. This means he is playing for more than just a starting role right now, and with his only competition being a so-far unimpressive Tyler Ulis, expect James to get every chance to succeed over the next month. James has been a journeyman up until now, playing across Europe before joining the G League in 2015, so expect him to play with hungry in an attempt to solidify his NBA career.
