NBA Waiver Wire: Standard Leagues (Week 10)

It's Week 10 – and 'tis the season to devour your waiver wire for some goodies. Don't just stick your hand in blindly though, let us help you in finding the gems waiting for you out there in waiver purgatory.

This year, we're tossing out our old convention of separating waiver wire posts into positions, and instead, we're separating them into of league -- standard, shallow, deep, etc. The NBA is trending to positionless basketball, so we at RotoBaller should too.

For standard (10-12 team) league adds, we use a general rule of thumb of an ownership rate of under 50% on Yahoo. All position eligibility based on Yahoo leagues.

Editor's Note: Our incredible team of writers received five total writing awards and 13 award nominations by the Fantasy Sports Writers Association, tops in the industry! Congrats to all the award winners and nominees including NBA Writer of the Year, Best NFL Series, MLB Series, PGA Writer and Player Notes writer of the year. Be sure to follow their analysis, rankings and advice all year long, and win big with RotoBaller! Read More!

Standard League Adds for Week 10

J.J. Barea, PG/SG Dallas Mavericks

Ownership: 32%

12.1 PPG / 3.2 REB / 5.5 AST / . 430FG%

With Seth Curry yet to play a game and Dennis Smith Jr. struggling with a hip injury, J.J. Barea has produced a little bit of magic for the Mavericks. It helps to have a magician in Rick Carlisle as a coach, but don't underestimate Barea and what he is able to do for your team. If one of the NBA's best coaches trusts him to produce, why shouldn't you?

Barea's value lies in his consistency. Over the past month he is scoring 11.8 points and grabbing a healthy 3.4 rebounds per game, which is reasonable, but his 6.6 assists per game during this time is a really nice contribution to have. Whether you're in need of assists or even if you think you have enough, it never hurts to have a steady boost in the volatile category. He is also hitting enough three-pointers each game to justify his value.

David Nwaba, SG/SF – Chicago Bulls

Ownership 15%

8.4 PPG / 5.4 REB / 1.5 AST / .571 FG%

Since returning from his ankle injury, David Nwaba has played well as his minutes have increased, and he is picking up steam. He is currently coming off of the bench, but he is routinely outplaying Denzel Valentine and it is only a matter of time before he takes over starting duties.

Over the last couple of weeks, Nwaba is scoring 10.9 PPG on .636% shooting with 5.3 RPG for the suddenly winning Bulls. He doesn't turn the ball over, which is kind of a niche commodity at this point, and he is contributing across the board with 1.4 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.9 blocks per game. Considering that he is not yet starting, these are serviceable numbers for standard leagues, and he seemingly only has room for growth this season.

Alex Len, PF/C – Phoenix Suns

Ownership 47%

9.3 PPG / 9.4 REB / 1.1 BLK / .537 FG%

Alex Len is back in as the guy in Phoenix...we believe. It has been quite the journey so far with Len, but he seems to be finally emerging as the center to own in Phoenix. He has now played in four straight games with back-to-back double-doubles, while Greg Monroe has picked up the DNP in the last two. They tried what they could to garner attraction for Monroe, but it seems a buy-out may be imminent.

Len is now averaging more rebounds than points per game, which is kind of absurd considering how much he has sat recently, but this is a clear indication of his skill. In these last four games he's played he has grabbed 11.8 boards with 11.0 points per game while shooting a stupid .692 from the field. He has also kicked in 4.0 assists with 2.0 blocks and has even hit all of his free throws. If Phoenix is finally ready to give Len the minutes he deserves, he will provide a huge boost for fantasy owners.
