7 years agoBob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the New York Mets and free-agent first baseman Adrian Gonzalez have agreed to terms. Gonzalez was dealt from the Dodgers to the Braves in a salary dump. He was bought out by the Braves, and they will be on the hook for about $22 million of Gonzalez's remaining salary. It's a bit of an odd move, as the Mets have Dominic Smith at first base, and both he and Gonzalez are left-handed hitters. It would make sense for Smith to get the majority of at-bats to grow as a major leaguer, however, it looks like the battle at first base will come down to spring training. Gonzalez is coming off an injury-prone season and is no longer the star first baseman he was once was. He is best served on the waiver wire.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller
