7 years agoWith starting pitcher Gerrit Cole being traded to the Houston Astros on Saturday, the New York Yankees are very much interested in signing free-agent starting pitcher Yu Darvish, according to two sources. The stalled free-agent market gives the Yankees a real chance to land Darvish at a "reasonable" price. New York seems to think it's possible that they could land Darvish for five years between $80-90 million. Still, at a reduced price, the Japanese right-hander will almost certainly put the Yanks over the luxury-tax threshold, which is something general manager Brian Cashman said the team won't do. However, if the Yankees do sign Darvish, they'd have to move significant salary in a trade, and outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury is the one player they'd like to deal. He is still owed three years and $68 million, including a $5 million buyout on his 2021 option year.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
