Drew Brees Expects To Re-Sign With Saints
7 years agoNew Orleans Saints impending free-agent quarterback Drew Brees would like to re-sign with the team, and he believes the team is entering "a window of time here where we can really make a run at it." Brees turns 39 Monday and has a clause in his contract that forbids the team from placing the franchise tag on him. If the Saints decide to cut Brees, he would cost the team $18 million in dead money against the salary cap. The future Hall of Fame quarterback had a down year across the board with the Saints focusing more on the ground game, although Brees did post a league-high and career-high 72 percent completion percentage. His 4,334 yards through the air were the fewest in his Saints career and fewest since 2005 when he played for the San Diego Chargers. His fantasy value would be the highest remaining in New Orleans, where he has plenty of talent around him, but he'll no longer be a high-end QB1 in fantasy drafts.
