Tigers Open To Trading Nicholas Castellanos
7 years agoThe Detroit Tigers are open to trading third baseman Nicholas Castellanos, according to multiple teams who have spoken with the Tigers this offseason. Detroit recently avoided salary arbitration with Castellanos, who is still only 26 years old, but a long-term contract extension seems unlikely and no progress has been made on one this offseason. Castellanos is a defensive liability, too, making a move to the outfield in 2018 likely if he remains. The power-hitting third baseman was one of the team's lone bright spots in 2017, as he had a career year, set new highs in home runs (26), runs (73) and RBI (101), and he also lowered his strikeout rate to 21.4 percent. A potential full-time move to the outfield would only increase his fantasy value, too.
