7 years agoMiami Marlins outfielder Christian Yelich's relationship with the team is "irretrievably broken," and it's in the best interests of both the outfielder and the organization if the Marlins trade him before spring training, according to his agent. Yelich was upset when the team traded outfielders Giancarlo Stanton, Marcell Ozuna and second baseman Dee Gordon this winter in their quest to cut payroll under new ownership. "I respect that plan, but that plan shouldn't include Christian at this point in his career. He's in the middle of the best years of his career, and having him be part of a 100-loss season is not really where [we] want to see him going," agent Joe Longo said. Catcher J.T. Realmuto and second baseman Starlin Castro have also voiced displeasure with the roster breakdown and would like to be traded. The Braves, Blue Jays, Dodgers, Angels, Padres, Diamondbacks and Phillies are among the teams who have inquired about Yelich this offseason. Yelich, 26, has hit .290/.369/.432 in his career and also has a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger award on his resume. Yelich's fantasy value would be better playing for a contending club, as he won't score nearly as many runs or drive in as many on a rebuilding club.
