Blake Bortles Silences Critics In AFC Title Loss
7 years agoJacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles completed 23 of 36 passes for 293 yards and one touchdown as the Jaguars lost late to the Patriots 24-20 in the AFC Championship Game. The Jaguars lost the game but not necessarily because of Bortles. He protected the football and made some nice throws, including a red-zone floater to tight end Marcedes Lewis for a four-yard touchdown in the first quarter. The Jaguars success this season can be traced to great defense and conservative offensive game calling. That recipe, however, may have doomed them against the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady. Bortles is the type of quarterback that teams win with, not because of. It is still unclear if he will be in the Jaguars future plans, but he certainly has helped his value with this deep playoff run. Bortles is not the type of quarterback you can build your franchise around, but he has proved this season that he can be a part of playing winning football.
